Ten Lessons the Spirit is teaching the Churches

The book of Revelation contains letters to the seven churches in Asia Minor.  At the end of each letter there is the warning “He who has an ear to hear let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.” (Rev.2:7, 11, 17, 29; 3: 6, 13, 22. NIV. ) We would do well to listen to the Spirit as He commends the good and promises rewards; reproves wrongdoing and calls for repentance.  In so doing, we would be stirred to obedience, good works, perseverance and faithfulness in our Christian walk.  Let us hear these ten lessons the Spirit is teaching the churches.

  1. God commends perseverance on His people’s part. Rev.2:2;  Matt. 24:13
  2. God encourages the churches to endure and be faithful to Him even in the face of hardships, persecution and death.Rev. 2:3,10
  3. God rewards faithfulness and endurance. Rev.2:10;  Gal.6:9
  4. God commends our love for Him and for our brothers and sisters. Rev.2:13; John 13:34; John 14:15, 23.  The church must not forsake love. Rev. 2:4;  1John 33:11; 1John 3:14-15
  5. Obey God’s word and do not deny Christ’s name. Rev. 3:8; John 14:15, 23; 11Tim. 2:12
  6. Do not allow false teachers to lead you astray from God’s word. 2:20;  Rev.2:14-15
  7. Test all those who come to you purporting to bring the truth. Rev.2:2; 1John 4:1.  Have a zero tolerance for false teachers.  Rev. 2:6
  8. Beware of pride and flattery. They give us a false perception of ourselves.  Rev.3:1;  Rev. 3:17
  9. When God shows our faults, we are to repent. Rev.3:19; Rev. 2:5;  Rev. 2:16
  10. Remain grounded in the faith that was handed down to us through God’s holy prophets and apostles. Rev.3:3; Jude 3; 1Thes. 2:15

About veldaville

A retired special education teacher with a Masters Degree in Education from Mount St. Vincent University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Was raised in an evangelical church but at age 20 joined Armstrong's Worldwide Church of God. After spending over 30 years in that cult, God opened my eyes to his truth and brought me back to the things I had learned when I was a youth. I believe that I was a Christian all along but because I was young and unlearned in the Scriptures, I fell prey to a religious cult. My ambition is, therefore, to proclaim Jesus Christ to all and especially to those who have been deceived by false teachers. My hope is that they may see the light and be saved from those who prey on their souls.
