Imperatives from the Book of Hebrews Pt.5

Let us go on to Maturity

Therefore let us move beyond the elementary teachings about Christ and be taken forward to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death,[a] and of faith in God, instruction about cleansing rites,[b] the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment.  Hebrews 6:1-2

In this natural life, new born babies progress from being helpless infants to toddlers, teenagers, young adults, adults and finally seniors.  Children progress to maturity physically, emotionally, mentally and socially.  Young babies in Christ are also expected to grow to maturity.  A baby Christian cannot mature on the elementary teachings of Christ Heb. 5:13.   He must be acquainted with the teaching of righteousness which the writer of Hebrews calls solid food Heb. 5:14. Grow in the knowledge and the stature of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Engaging in prayer, Bible study, and regular interaction with other believers will, over time, help us to achieve maturity.

God has provided His body with the knowledge, gifts, talents, and skills needed to bring His people to maturity in Christ Eph. 3:11-14.  A mature Christian is grounded in the teachings of Jesus. A mature Christian can instruct others in the faith Heb. 5:13.  A mature Christian is no longer carried here, there and everywhere by the whimsical teachings of men.  Let us “… become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ” Eph.3:13 NIV.
